Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federal State of Maryland have the potential for significant improvement of cooperation that, along with traditionally successful military cooperation, will be extended to the civil sector as part of the State Partnership Program that has existed for more than two decades. This was concluded at the meeting between the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, and the Deputy Secretary of State at State of Maryland, Michael W. Lore, that was organised in Annapolis by the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Washington and the Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC).

Minister Forto expressed his condolences to the families of tragically deceased citizens of Maryland during the collapse of the Fransis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore when six persons who worked on its maintenance were killed.

Deputy State Secretary Lore expressed the interest in cooperation in the filed of transport, new technologies, education, culture and connecting businesses on both sides. Lore took the opportunity to present to the BiH delegation the history of Maryland and Annapolis that was briefly the capital of the United States of America after the ratification of the Paris Treaty in 1783 that ended the American Revolution and the place where the first US President George Washington made the decision to withdraw from the US Army Commander duties. The intersection of these historical events is the building that still hoses the Maryland Senate.

Upon his return to Washington, Minister Forto was hosted by the Institute for Development Impact and the MBHEC Council where he met with his hosts, Emir Nurkić Kačapor and Adnan Hadrović. The representatives of the Council informed Minister Forto on the previous activities of the platform to support international cooperation between Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as on the prospects of future cooperation. Minister Forto expressed his support to the work of the Council, in particular the activities that include new generations of US citizens originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
