At the meeting with World Bank and EBRD representatives, the Ministers presented their joint initiative for receiving grant for the implementation of this project and for the construction of accessing roads.
“We made the decision to begin with the construction of a bridge in Šćepan Polje in 2024, and shortly thereafter we expect the start of the construction of access roads on both sides. We are starting something the idea of which came to light in 1983. It’s about time”, said Minister Forto.
The construction of the bridge will be financed by joint funds from both states.
“This is a very important project for us, the implementation of which will resolve the decades-old problem with the existing bridge that is in poor condition, which connects the two countries and is part of the international Sarajevo – Podgorica road”, said Minister Radulović.
Minister Radulović informed Minister Forto of the initiative for the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian road, noting on the significance of that project for Montenegro, given that it would help connecting Central Europe and Northern Italy with the Ionian peninsula via Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, and Greece.
Plans for the construction of Goražde – Pljevlja road, as the connection to the Bar – Boljare road and Požega – Sarajevo road, were also discussed in the meeting.
