As noted by Minister Mitrović, the bridge opening would not have been done today if the funds necessary for the construction of the Bratunac-Ljubovija border-crossing had not been secured in 2019, with the appointment of the new convocation of the Council of Ministers, in which he personally participates.
“"The implementation of the project has been awaited for a full 15 years, and six years have passed since the beginning of the works on the construction of the bridge. The newly built bridge connects two river banks, two countries, two peoples, but also two economies, enabling infrastructural connectivity” said Minister Mitrović.
Minister Vulin said that the “Bratoljub” bridge is a bridge of hope providing us the opportunity to be closer to each other.
“There is no excuse for crating boundaries between people, no justification for this beautiful bridge to wait six years to be crossed over. Six years to change the lives for the better, and we have been quick and expedient” said Minister Vulin.
The Prime Minister of the RS Government, Radovan Višković, said that this is the first joint border-crossing and that, following its example, all future border-crossings should be built in the same manner in order to facilitate procedures for all those who use them.
The Mayor of Bratunac, Srđan Rankić, and the President of the Ljubovija Municipality, Milan Janković, agreed that this bridge represents the beginning of successful economic projects, cultural connectivity and cooperation, as the basis for creating a better future.
The Republic of Serbia financed the construction of the “Bratoljub” bridge which is 227 metres long and 14 metres wide, with one lane in each direction, and the pedestrian and cycling lanes in both directions. Bosnia and Herzegovina financed the construction of the joint border-crossing on its territory.
