The topic of the meeting was the construction of the Belgrade – Sarajevo - Belgrade motorway, as one of the most significant and most valuable infrastructure projects in the region, given that the total estimated value of its construction amounts to some EUR two billion.
Minister Mitrović noted that the Republic of Serbia is extremely careful about its relations with its neighbours, primarily with Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus both with the RS and the FBiH, and expressed gratitude on behalf of all citizens for the recent donation of vaccines to Bosnia and Herzegovina initiated by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
“The Republic of Serbia, led by Mr. Vučić, has so far shown and continues to show its willingness to build good friendly relations, to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the best example is the agreement that Vučić initiated with Erdogan and the BiH Presidency on the age-old idea of connecting Belgrade and Sarajevo by building a motorway” said Minister Mitrović.
Furthermore, the Ministers discussed the pace of works and infrastructural connectivity between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia through the project of Ruma - Šabac – Loznica motorway construction, reconstruction and maintenance of interstate bridges, construction of a new border crossing at Sremska Rača and reconstruction of the Kotroman – Vardište border crossing, safe waterway and cleaning of the Sava riverbed, as well as the planned construction of the airport in Trebinje.
“The Government of the Republic of Serbia has brought a decision to invest in the Trebinje airport, we believe that for us this is a joint strategic investment. This will be the airport in the ownership of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it is important for all that all relevant authorities in Sarajevo undertake all the activities within their competence in order for the airport to experience full economic exploitation to the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” said Minister Momirović.
The Ministers concluded that it is of great importance that neighbouring countries have stronger bilateral relations, especially in the conditions of the global pandemic when solidarity is needed more than ever, and close cooperation is the right path for economic recovery and further prosperity.
t was emphasized that the policy of both countries should be a mini Schengen, i.e. the non-existence of barriers in the flow of people and goods between the two countries, ultimately leading to full economic integration of the region in the way it has been done in the EU.
