“Membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union and NATO Alliance is of its strategic interest and the guarantee of stability, and therefore of the economic progress as well”, said the state-level Minister of Communications and Transport, Edin Forto, at the meeting with the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.

During the meeting held in the State Department in Washington, Minister Forto noted that “Crucial investment and infrastructure projects require political and economic stability, whereas the constant production of political crises, other than cheap populism, only causes harm to all BiH citizens”.

The Special US Envoy Escobar emphasised that the United States will remain Bosnia and Herzegovina’s strong friend and partner, ready to protect the Dayton Agreement, its territorial integrity and its institutions. He also noted that the United States would continue to work closely with the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of implementing reforms necessary for continued Euro-Atlantic integration.

The Special US Envoy said that the problem of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not of an ethnic nature, but is reflected in the systematic corruption, for which there have been attempts to cover it up by fabricating crisis for many years. Therefore, he noted, the rule of law reforms play a crucial role in all Western Balkan countries, the enforcement of which is their obligation on its path to the EU membership.

“Such processes require new generation of leaders, such as we already see among you and among new leaders of Montenegro who will focus on the development and strengthening of the economy in the entire region, in which you will have the support of the United States”, concluded the Special US Envoy Escobar.
